The culture war

One of the things I get passionate about is the cultural war this country is in right now. While most of the country still holds to traditional values, there is a smaller section of this country fighting to make Christians out to be the bad guys who are the cause of all of the social ills we see in this world. You see this more in television and movies than anywhere else.

I am constantly thinking about this cultural war and spend more time praying for it than I do anything else. And in two days I am starting up a new two to three month look at this cultural war with our teenagers (youth - my house at 6pm Sunday nights - 1803 Rincon). So, it caught my eye when I saw the top story in the Ethics and Religious Liberty rss feed which updates every weekday on the right hand side of the church website. That story this morning is this:

Movies used as tool in the cultural war upon Biblical truth

This is a great article that I think all Christians should read. I hope that you take the time to read it. But, like that guy who tells you about the ending of a movie before you read it, I'm going to share the end of it with you. You can click on this excerpt to be taken to the article.

In Van Sant’s MILK (the movie that most expect to win the best picture oscar this year), homosexual grownups are portrayed as emotionally immature, some even unbalanced. Twice, the movie shows Harvey engaging in sexual activity with someone he’s just met. Drug use is condoned. Homosexual leaders are shown willing to drive others out of business. Yet, it is those of us who take the Bible to heart who are painted as nasty, narrow and unwise.

I wouldn’t say we’ve lost the culture war. The majority of Americans are still uniting around common traditional values. But our nation is undergoing change, and there are those who have declared a culture war upon biblical truths. Be prepared. As our nation further distances itself form biblical perspectives, your faith will be strongly tested.
